Have you ever stopped to think about God? Who is God and how we are made in His image? You will be surprised to read what the scriptures have to say about our heavenly Father. So here we have some scriptures to remind us about who God is and who we also are. What sin will do to us unless we walk away from it and re focus and dedicate our life to our heavenly Father.

Characteristics of our God

God is Supreme. He is the Creator of the universe. He is also an affectionate Father who loves His children and wants their obedience and devotions. He disciplines them when they disobey, but is ready to forgive when they repent.

Our God is:

Our Creator

If anyone has any doubts of how we were created, this set of scriptures should put your mind in place. In the beginning God created Heaven and earth… That puts a very clear answer to who created earth and the universe.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
King James Version (KJV)

“You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”
Revelation 4:11
New Living Translation (NLT)

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Hebrews 11:3
King James Version (KJV)

for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.
Colossians 1:16-17
New Living Translation (NLT)

A Loving God

I would have to say that there is no bigger love then the one that God has for us. We are His children and he loves us regardless of our self-fishness. One day, we will we back and understand who He is and His love for us then we will come back to His arms and protection.

Long ago the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.

The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.

But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
1 John 4:8
New Living Translation (NLT)

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
Romans 5:8
New Living Translation (NLT)

God is Holy

No wonder I want to praise you and worship you Oh Lord all the days of my life! Only when our hearts are completely change, we could fully understand how to worship our Lord. He is almighty Father of all living beings. We shall worship Him all days of our life!

Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain in Jerusalem, for the Lord our God is holy!
Psalm 99:9
New Living Translation (NLT)

There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.
1 Samuel 2:2

The Lord is righteous in everything he does; he is filled with kindness.

New Living Translation (NLT)

For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.”
Acts 17:31
New Living Translation (NLT)

Characteristics of Man

God created man in His own image, giving him a free will-to obey or disobey His laws. Human nature is inclined to disobey, and this is a sin. God holds us responsible for making the right decisions in our life.

Man Is

Created In God’s Likeness

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27
New Living Translation (NLT)

Sinful by Nature

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God

1 John 1:8
King James Version (KJV)

Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
James 1:14-15
New Living Translation (NLT)

When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21
New Living Translation (NLT)

Subject to Deception

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

God’s Righteousness will not overlook sin

Since God is perfectly good and man by contrast is sinful, a barrier has come between us and God.

The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

King James Version (KJV)

So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
