Spiritual Warfare Ephesians 6:10-20 All Christians should put on their spiritual armor, it says to put it on, but it never, ever says to take it off. Satan’s victims have no idea there is a war going on. Christians should know they are in the midst of a great spiritual struggle, although many don’t want to believe it. What is also difficult is that many who know there is a war do not understand satan’s schemes, or the weapons God provided for our defense. In Ephesians chapter 6:10-20, we understand we are in a spiritual war, and learn to utilize the tools the Lord has given us. This should not come as a shock, spiritual warfare has been going on for thousands of years.
A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
There are different types of spiritual warfare. There is temptation, see Matthew chapter 4 how Jesus was tempted. There is deception. In Genesis, there is the account of Adam and Eve and the fall in the garden of Eden. Also, there are accusations, satan is the accuser of the brethren. He accuses all day and all night long. We all have things in life that tempt us. The best thing we can do is flee those things immediately. What do we have to help us with our spiritual battle? Prayer, God’s word, fellowship, and being right with God. As you read God’s word today, you will see in ten years from now, what you read will have a completely different meaning in your life. Our prayer and devotional life means something that we give our life too, so we have to want to be diligent in our prayer lives. Stop looking at the circumstances in the present, and focus on your future, and your new life in Christ. The enemy will attack if he sees you are moving ahead, in a solid and firm foundation, so make sure to be prayed up.
Christ had the Victory
Satan has defeated everyone apart from our Lord Jesus, which is why He had the powerful victory for us, giving us eternal life through Him. Often, if a believer is found doing his own will, and not our Lord’s will, he may be continually attacked and unsettled in his walk.
Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”
This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.
The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.
God is Almighty
The Lord’s might is by far greater than satan’s. Put on God’s full armor so that you will be able to stand against satan’s schemes. Ephesians is depicted in military terminology here in order to show that Christian’s will encounter spiritual battles by all who are desiring to live Godly lives in Christ Jesus. No true saint can function in the body of Christ without encountering some resistance or form of evil.
Don’t try to stand on your own strength, striving without our Lord is sure failure. We should be ready at all times, when the evil day arrives if you are lukewarm or on the fence, you will be searching for spiritual strength and the enemy will have a field day with you. What exactly is the Christian armor? There are six pieces listed, seven including prayer. These are truth, righteousness, the Gospel, faith, salvation, and the word of God. The fact that each one is described by a piece of Roman soldier armor is not important, what is important is that we have theses six traits in our lives.
The Gospel message is the most important message in human history, it makes peace between God and man and also brings peace to the one who obeys it. The most vital piece of spiritual armor is faith, without it, it is impossible to please God. A lack of faith is a serious problem when evil days fall upon us. When storm clouds gather, and persecution, sickness, unemployment or financial hardship happens, without faith it will hit hard. When things are confusing, and nothing makes sense, and God seems distant, it’s our faith that brings perspective to our situation. We can trust God, even if we don’t see or feel Him. You have been saved for a purpose and God has a future and a plan for your life. If we look to the Christian armor, we are looking to the spiritual make up of the man or woman of God. Our prayer life is likened to watchfulness, and we will be blessed to have our communication with our heavenly Father, who is rich in mercy, and loving kindness, and is always gracious to us, His children. God Bless you abundantly.
